WALLENIUS SOL has received a new sustainability award from Stora Enso. The award is given to the supplier supporting Stora Enso sustainability targets the most.

In connection with the invitation to Stora Enso Supplier Day 2022, the renewable materials company announced their intention to hand out an award to the supplier who has a positive impact on Stora Ensos sustainability targets. On October 25th, WALLENIUS SOL was named the winner in the scope 3 target – where Stora Enso commits to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent by 2030 from the base year of 2019.

According to Stora Enso, WALLENIUS SOL was appointed the award based on the fact that the shipping company, with the delivery of the new Enabler vessels, is the first and only enterprise that has succeeded in creating a sustainable infrastructure along the Gulf of Bothnia. The new multi-fuel vessels enable a reduction of CO2 emissions from 46 g to 12 g per tonne kilometre, compared to the vessels that they are replacing.

“When establishing WALLENIUS SOL our objective was clear and sharp. It was to “create a sustainable infrastructure at sea for the industry around the Baltic Sea” and to do so, we have invested 150 MEUR in two state of the art RoRo vessels. This award is a proof that we have achieved that objective. It was the trust Stora Enso gave us in a long-term freight contract that made this possible,” says Ragnar Johansson.
